Timeline: 5 days

Theme: The Places We Live In/ My Community

Goals/ Objectives:
NC Standards:

Language Arts:
• Connect information and events in text to experience.
• Discuss concepts and information in a text to clarify and extend knowledge.
• Use legible manuscript handwriting.
• Maintain conversation and discussions:
o attending to oral presentations
o taking turns expressing ideas and asking questions.

Math:
• Complete simple spatial visualization tasks and puzzles.
• Collect and organize data as a group activity

Social Studies:
• Use geographic representations and terms to describe surroundings

NC Information/Technology Standards:
• Use technology tools and skills to reinforce classroom concepts
and activities.
• Classify useful sources of information.

Rationale:
Children need to understand the places where they live: the neighborhood, city, county, state, country . They need to know that they are part of the citizen of the world.

Medium: PowerPoint Presentation, video, CD , Maps, internet, digital camera images, globes

Target Audience: 4-6 years old

• Literature/Story: “Me on the Map”, integration of the song, “We All Live Together”

Professional Background: I have been a Kindergarten teacher for 5 years and taught Nursery - 2nd Grade (Primary levels) for 22 years now.

Education background: I graduated from the University of the Philippines in 1989 with a degree B.S. Elementary Education, Teaching in the Early Grades as my area of concentration. I took some graduate units in Reading from the same school.

Professional interests: I love collecting children's books and literature. I love art so I enjoy making creative projects with my young students.
